Need an answer to how many players have been transferred from a bottom filght(old 4th div club/new 3rd div) to a top flight club?
IIrc Ian Rush Chester to Liverpool was one? – how many others?
Joey Jones (Wrexham to Liverpool) £110,000 in 1975.
Kevin Sheedy (Hereford to Liverpool) £80,000 in 1978.

They are not a team that I support but Crewe Alexandra must have one of the best records for bringing young players through their Youth Academy and selling them on to top-flight clubs. This has been the policy (and the reason that they are financially sound with a really good stadium to play at) of the wonderful Dario Gradi, who must have been one of the longest serving managers in post-war football. Here are some of the names that have "made it to the top":
